The Rock Island... MALTA

Where do I start on this little rock. I have both visited and lived in Malta, and in either case I wish I had spent less time there than I planned. Initially I was there for vacation for 14 days, that is FOURTEEN days, about 10 days too much. DOn't read this wrong now, it is a very nice island with alot to see but it can all be covered in 3 days and would give you plenty of time to relax and party, which ever you are there for.
Food- this place has alot of Italian food and some seafood. It has all the classic places and big tourist traps, with less than friendly staff everywhere.
there is literally a handful of places that I enjoyed going to, but that too in time turned boring and nothing to add to the food cravings. Thank god for the markets and seasonal fruits, I do not think I have had so much watermelon in my life!
While living there I did get the chance to actually explore more of the island, much to my surprise it did not differ much more than the tourist visit. Sure it was much calmer and nicer off season than with high wave of tourists and the 50 degree summer heat, which wasn't like a a Mediterranean heat, but this heat you feel when you are on a rock with no greenery to stabilize the air you breathe. This island is pretty much a stone oven in the summer.

The beaches- I do not call these beaches, unless you travel to gozo and get a proper beach vacation. All main island malta beach areas are smalls tone beaches, dirty, and filled with glass-chatter. It does not matter if you are in teh party area or out on the country side, they just do not care enough about their nature to keep it clean and friendly. So be prepared to spend the first half hour to clean up your area, specially if you have children or like in my case puppies. There is just too much crap laying around on layers and i did cut my self a few times.
Events- Malta holds alot of events and there is constantly something going on.. it is real fun but then only if you like crowds that just walk through you and start fights for no reason. ST. Julians holds an annual electro music/music beach party festival. The whole waterfront turns into these bohemian style cushions, and the music goes on until early morning. I would advice to look up the events before going, for more than many reasons (your travel plans within the island can go to a complete stop if there is a major event and roads are being closed off, also people get even ruder when fancy events are going on)
